Google decides it wants to sell recently acquired Terra Bella to rival Planet (Updated)

It has been reported that Alphabet Inc – the Google parent company – has entered into talks to sell its Earth imaging business, Terra Bella. Terra Bella, known as Skybox Imaging when it was acquired by Google in June 2014, was bought for US$500m.

A Bloomberg article indicates that rival Earth imaging company Planet (formerly Planet Labs) is in line to acquire the business.

Update: Planet released a statement, 3 February, confirming their acquisition of Terra Bella. The deal will include a multi-year agreement from Google to purchase Earth-imaging data from Planet.
