The United Arab Emirates has ordered for new aerosol and greenhouse gas monitoring satellite. A contract has been awarded by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in Dubai for the construction of DMSat-1 AirWatch satellite. The spacecraft will be designed and built by the Toronto-based UTIAS Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) in Toronto using its NEMO – Next generation Earth Monitoring and Observation bus.
The scientific payload aboard the AirWatch satellite will be a multispectral polarimeter used to monitor aerosols in the upper atmosphere, and two spectrometers to monitor the “greenhouse” gases carbon dioxide and methane emitted from the United Arab Emirates.
