Arianespace has announced that its Ariane 5 ECA launch vehicle will carry the GSAT-11 communications satellite into orbit in 2017. The spacecraft, owned and built by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has a mass of 5,725 kg. The Ku-band payload will employ spot beams to provide telecom links with small terminals situated around India. Dry mass is circa 2100 kg. GSAT-11, which will be located in geostationary orbit for operations, employs ISRO’s new I-4K Bus. This craft is configured with two-sided large solar array panels generating around 11 kW of DC power.
