CesiumAstro announced on 25 May that it would be launching its first mission, dubbed “Cesium Mission 1”, to LEO alongside the NASA Landsat 9 satellite in September this year. Cesium Mission 1 will consist of two 6U-CubeSats, built in-house, and are intended to showcase the CesiumAstro Nightingale 1 active phased array antenna to potential customers. Another objective for the mission will be a demonstration of Ka-band inter-satellite links between the two satellites.
The mission is scheduled to last five years and during that time CesiumAstro intends to invite customers to book time on the satellites to evaluate the capabilities of its technology. The company completed a Series A funding round raising US$12.4 million recently which was lead by Airbus Ventures, and included Honeywell Ventures.
