China launches JILIN-1 KUANFU 02A satellite

China successfully launched a CERES 1 (GUSHENXING-1) launch vehicle from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre, China on 25 August 2023 at 0459 GMT. It carried JILIN-1 KUANFU 02A, which is a multispectral optical satellite to monitor remote sensing data related to the global environment, disasters and sustainable development. This is the first satellite from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and their first step towards building a remote sensing satellite constellation for environmental monitoring and disaster forecasting system.

This marked the eighth successful launch of the CERES 1. The first launch of CERES 1 was on the 7 November 2020.
