Launching at 2003 GMT on 24 October a Chinese Long March 2D rocket has carried a triplet of the Yaogan-39 series into LEO. The mission originated from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, China. These satellites make up the fourth Yaogan-39 triplet and are the second such group launched this month – the third triplet was launched on 5 October.
Although these satellites are described simply as “remote sensing” units in Chinese state media Western observers believe them to have a military function, potentially reconnaissance or ELINT.
