Space News (Peter De Selding) reports that two 3U-cubesat spacecraft of 4kg each have been ordered from Clyde Space as precursors to a full constellation of Sustained Ocean Observation for Nanosatellites (SOCON) consellation which will carry sensors built by the US firm, Cloudland Instruments, to monitor ocean colour under a project led by the University of North Carolina. The initial two spacecraft are being built as part of a US$1.675 million project and will be launched in 2017 on separate flights.The constellation is being financed by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
