The Spanish satellite operator, Hispasat, has contracted with Space Systems/Loral for the construction of the commercial communications satellite Hispasat 1F. The order represents the third construction order that Hispasat has placed with Space Systems/Loral. The new satellite will serve as a replacement for the Hispasat 1D and will give the Group additional capacity in America, Europe and North Africa.
Hispasat 1F will be located over 30 degrees West to serve as a replacement for the Hispasat 1D and provide additional Ku band capacity in the Andean region and in Brazil, and expand the Group’s transatlantic capacity in Europe-America and America-Europe connectivity. Ka-band capacity will enable Hispasat continue expanding its broadband service in Europe. The Hispasat 1F is expected to have a useful life of 15 years. The satellite will be built on the LS-1300 satellite platform, with 11.5 kW power and a multi-mission payload distributed across 48 Ku band transponders, 6 Ka band beams, 1 Ka BSS band beam, 1 C band beam.
