The Egyptsat 2 earth observation satellite has been launched by a Soyuz U launch vehicle from the Baikonur launch site near Tyuratam, Kazakhstan at 1620 GMT on 16 April 2014. The spacecraft which has an official civilian use, is expected to have some military application, given that it has a panchromatic ground resolution of 1m.
