India successfully launched the GSAT 29 communications satellite at 1138 GMT on a GSLV Mk III vehicle from Sriharikota on 14 November 2018. While its predecessor rocket the GSLV Mks 1 and 2 had a very poor launch record with a combined five failures out of 12, the GSLV Mk III has had two successes out of two launch attempts. While the GSAT 29 satellite’s main mission is to provide Ku and Ka band communications, the satellite also carries Q and V Band communications to conduct experiments and also carries imaging equipment to test whether high resolution imagery can be achieved from GEO.
