After Intelsat announced a multi year contract with broadband provider, Gogo, to provide aviation data services to passenger jets using the OneWeb LEO and Intelsat Epic GEO spacecraft constellations in February, Inmarsat has countered by noting that it expects to announce several airlines signing up to its own GEO-satellite based commercial aviation broadband service. However, to compete the company will, in many cases, have to bear the cost of the airline equipment. Inmarsat has advised its investors to be prepared for major capital expenditure on its customer equipment.
