In what was just the second Indian launch of the year, following on from a PSLV mission in February, a GSLV 2 rocket has suffered a launch failure destroying its satellite payload. The rocket lifted-off at 0013 GMT on 12 August from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, India, and was carrying the EOS-03 – previously known as GISAT-1 – Geostationary Earth imaging satellite.
Unfortunately, late into the launch it appears that the liquid upper-stage suffered an anomaly resulting in mission failure. From telemetry and the ISRO launch broadcast it seems that the issue occurred around the planned time for ignition of the third/upper-stage, post second-stage separation.
