The Italian ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoferetti took command of the International Space Station (ISS) from previous commander Oleg Artemiev on 28 September, just before he and his crew mates Denis Matveev and Sergei Korsakov boarded their Soyuz MS-21 spacecraft ready for their return home.
With the hatches all shut, Soyuz MS-21 undocked from the ISS Prichal Module at 0734 GMT on 29 Sepember 2022 and moved away from the space station for a two and a half hour flight before re-entry burn at 1003 GMT. The descent module separated from the other modules, and, after a fiery re-entry, the capsule landed in on the Kazah Steppe outside of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, as planned at 1157 GMT, where the crew were met by helicopter carried recovery teams.
