Despite a forecast of showery weather the turnout is predicted to be high for the UK General Election on 8th June (today as this is written). This is likely to be down to the younger electorate which is expected to vote in strength this time – unlike in recent years.
The expected increased level of political engagement by the under-30s is thought to be partly due to some of the policy issues more directly affecting them; partly due to the closeness of this election and the increasing differences between the respective political parties (previously they were very much the same); partly due to a wish to defend political freedom and democracy against terrorism and international interference; and finally, partly due to the young being shaken out of their electoral apathy after regret at not voting in the Brexit referendum which was, for some, a disappointing result.

Comment by David Todd: While some of the main protagonists in this election have had better campaigns than others, we at Seradata hope that whoever is in power at the end of it will treat the UK’s space industry well. It deserves it.
Post Script: Watch out for the effect of “tactical voting” on this election as several websites are telling voters which way to vote to get a party out rather than getting one it. Likewise, for those normally uninterested in party politics, there are special apps to tell you which way to vote on the basis of a “what you want” questionnaire.
