SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (SJC) has awarded Lockheed Martin Space Systems, the spacecraft manufacturing arm of Lockheed Martin, a construction contract for JCSAT-17 commercial communications satellite. The spacecraft will be based on the Lockheed Martin A2100 bus design/platform and is designed to operate for a minimum of 15 years.
JCSAT-17 will operated in S-band and will have include a flexible processor to allow its communications capacity to be concentrated on disaster relief efforts or other high-volume events. The satellite will be manufactured in Denver, Colorado and delivered in 2019.
