A Long March 3B/G3 (CZ-3B/G3) rocket successfully lifted off from its launch pad at the Xichang launch site in China at 1155 GMT on 10 March 2020. Aboard was a Beidou navigation satellite for the constellation that its the Chinese equivalent of GPS. The Beidou-3 G2Q satellite will use its own propulsion to stabilise itself into its a GEO (Geostationary Earth Orbit) orbital position.
The Beidou constellation hasmost of its thirty satellite complement in Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), however, three satellites located in highly inclined geosynchronous orbit, along with three located in a full geostationary orbital positions. This satellite was one of these.
