OneWeb LLC has formally confirmed that it will be building its 720 satellite constellation, in 18 planes plus another 170 spares at a new factory in Exploration Park, Florida. The spacecraft which are being designed in conjunction with Airbus Defence and Space, which will build the first ten spacecraft in Toulouse France, will orbit the Earth at an altitude of 1,100km in Low- Earth Orbit (LEO), providing broadband internet services to small portable terminals as they do so.
The firm is using US$80 million to build the factory with an additional US$17.5 million being provided by the State of Florida.
