NASA has announced that its Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) will be launched by an air-launched Orbital Sciences Corp’ Pegasus XL launch vehicle in October 2016 from near Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Designed in conjunction with the University of Michigan, the eight microsat NASA CYGNSS mission has been designed to investigate the formation and intensity of tropical cyclones using reflected GPS signals to derive wind speeds from wave heights.
