At 1144 GMT on 4 April 2014, a PSLV-XL launch vehicle successfully lifted off from the Sriharikota launch site in India, carrrying the IRNSS-R1B navigation satellite for the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System. The spacecraft which was built by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) had a launch mass of 1432kg. The XL version of the PSLV uses stretched versions of the normal PSOM (PSLV Strap On Motor) solid rocket boosters. The spacecraft was placed into a transfer orbit of 20,630x 283km which was within target margins. The satellite will eventually raise itself from this sub-GTO transfer orbit into an inclined Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) and it will be placed over 55 degrees East longitude.
