Soyuz MS-17 crew returns

by | Apr 19, 2021 | Russia, Soyuz, space station

The Soyuz MS-17 capsule undocked from the International Space Station Poisk module on 17 April to begin its return to Earth. Following a de-orbit burn at 0401 GMT on 19 April 2021, the capsule safely landed at 0455 GMT on 19 April near Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan. Crew Sergey Ryzhikov (Commander) and Flight Engineers, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Kate Rubins were safely helped from the grounded capsule.

The mission was launched on 14 October 2020 onboard a Soyuz 2-1A, docking with the International Space Station Rassvet port just over 3 hours later. The Soyuz MS-17 crew formed part of ISS Expeditions 63 and 64, spending 385 days in-orbit. Cosmonaut Sergey Ryzhikov took command of the ISS for Expedition 64 following the departure of Soyuz MS-16. Ryzhikov then handed over command of the ISS to NASA astronaut Shannon Walker on 15 April.
