At 1751 GMT on 11 June 2016, a Delta IV Heavy launch vehicle was used to successfully propel a National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) payload, NRO L-37, into an undisclosed Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO). The launch was conducted by United Launch Alliance (ULA) from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
The flight was the sixth time that the Delta IV Heavy has been utilised for an NRO mission, the 9th time the vehicle has been launched by ULA.
As with most other NRO spacecraft the exact mission and orbital position of the spacecraft are classified. The NRO L-37 surveillance mission badge depicts a Black Knight standing defensively in-front of the US flag with an eagle emblazoned on its chest.
